Thailand’s “Stay for Santa” Initiative Promotes Sustainable Tourism”

Thailand launches the “Stay for Santa” campaign to encourage sustainable tourism practices during the holiday season.

Gloyta Nathalang, Executive Vice President of Corporate Branding, Communication, and Sustainability Activation at Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, and Chairperson of Carbon Markets Club, Chatchai Loybundit, Executive Vice President of Investment at BCPG Public Company Limited, along with representatives from The Erawan Group Public Company Limited including Sebastian Frederic Salmon, Senior Vice President of Franchised Hotel Operations, and Rungthip Phenphan, Vice President of Sustainability Development & Corporate Communication Division, joined executives from Bangchak Group and The Erawan Group Hotels in launching the “Stay for Santa” campaign. This initiative aims to enable individual carbon footprint offsets for guests staying at four hotels under The Erawan Group during the New Year Festival, from December 23, 2023, to January 2, 2024, for ten nights, with the goal of spreading happiness and contributing to the planet.

The “Stay for Santa” campaign will raise awareness among hotel guests about responsible tourism that takes into consideration environmental impact and actively encourages the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions during their stays and travels. The campaign urges guests to “Abate” carbon emissions, “Avoid” harming the environment, and take “Action” every day. This message will be communicated through the hotels’ internal channels and online platforms of the hotels and Carbon Markets Club to promote the reduction of carbon footprints during hotel stays and in everyday life as much as possible.

Carbon Markets Club, in collaboration with Bangchak Group and The Erawan Group, is driving the low-carbon society initiative through the launch of the “Stay for Santa” campaign. This demonstrates a commitment to social and environmental responsibility and serves as a pioneering project that encourages private sector businesses and the general public to prioritise creative activities aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions on a large scale. The four leading hotels from The Erawan Group participating in the campaign are: 1) Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, 2) JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok, 3) Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok, and 4) Mercure Sukhumvit 24.

For those emissions that prove challenging to eliminate entirely, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited will offset the carbon emissions for hotel guests participating in the campaign with T-VER carbon credits from BCPG Public Company Limited through Carbon Markets Club. This initiative not only allows the individual carbon footprint of the guests during the New Year Festival to be offset but also contributes to the overall joy of this festive season. Guests will enjoy an environmentally and socially responsible stay, playing their part in creating a more sustainable world and passing on a beautiful world to future generations, where they can live and travel happily.
