Thailand’s ‘Girl from Nowhere’ wins best Asian TV series at Busan

A Thai girl whose iconic laugh and smirk belies a deep desire for justice was recognized as Asia’s best TV series at a major film festival last night.

The second season of Dek Mai, or Girl From Nowhere, won best Asian TV series last night at the Busan Film Festival. 

The mystery thriller anthology revolves around an anti-heroine Thai schoolgirl named Nanno who mysteriously shows up at schools and exposes corruption, lies and the misdeeds of teachers and students. 

Its second season, released on Netflix in May, received critical acclaim globally for its unconventional take on high school society – it hit the streaming platform’s most-watched lists in several countries including Vietnam, the Philippines and Brazil.

The show was created by GMM Studios International, Bravo! Studios and Sour Bangkok
