Thailand’s darkest days mined for satire by artist ‘Uninspired by Current Events’

From a lab rat being injected with random vaccines to panda-masked riot police opening fire, an artist known only as Uninspired by Current Events has been making a mark with of-the-moment works satirizing Thailand’s worst days of the pandemic. 

One of the anonymous artist’s most impactful works was just posted yesterday. It depicts a shrouded corpse lying in a street surrounded by orange traffic cones and abandoned flags – a timely parallel to the ghastly sight this week of several dead bodies found in Bangkok’s streets.

“I make art of events within the day because that’s how fast things move here,” said the artist, whose bio reads, “Surrealism animations inspired by life in an authoritarian regime.”

The artist did not identify themselves beyond saying they were 29 and “unfortunately” still living in Thailand.
