Thailand shatter Bangladesh’s hopes


Bangladesh were out of the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup 2024 Qualifiers race after they lost to hosts Thailand 0-3 in their Group H match at the Chonburi Stadium on Saturday.

Bangladesh started their group campaign with a 0-2 loss against Malaysia and will play their final group match against the Philippines at the same venue on Tuesday.

For Thailand, midfielders Purachet Thodsanid (44th minute), Airfan Doloh (87th minute), and defender Chanapach Buaphan (in stoppage time of the first half) scored once each.

In the day’s other match, Malaysia beat the Philippines 4-0 and will face Thailand in the top-lace decider on Tuesday. Thailand beat the Philippines 5-0 in their first match.

A total of 43 teams, split into 11 groups, are competing at their respective group venues in the qualifiers round.

The group winners and the four best runners-up will be joining the hosts, Qatar in the final stage of the tournament that is scheduled to be held in Qatar from April 15 to May 3 in 2024.
