The Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported on Monday (January 1st), a total of 128 deaths, 1,151 injuries, and 1,150 road accidents in three days (December 29th – December 31st) of the New Year Seven Days Road Safety campaign in Thailand (December 29th, 2023 to January 4th, 2024).
The highest total number in three days (December 29th – December 31st) of road accidents and injuries was in Kanchanaburi (44 times, 43 injuries). The highest fatalities were in Bangkok (8 deaths).
The DDPM reported on the third day of the campaign (December 31st) that there were 51 deaths and 416 injuries in 424 road accidents.
Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (37.26%), followed by drunk driving (32.78%).
Most accidents involved motorbikes (86.91%). Thirty-seven percent of road accidents occurred most on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 0:01 A.M. to 0:10 A.M. (8.02%).
The highest number of accidents was in Kanchanaburi, the west of Thailand (18 times). The highest number of injuries was in Nakhon Si Thammarat (20 injuries). The province with the highest number of fatalities were Nakhon Phanom and Udon Thani (4 deaths).
