Thailand is gearing up to commemorate King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great’s Birthday Anniversary on December 5, a day also celebrated as National Day and Father’s Day. The Ministry of Culture (MOC) has announced a series of cultural and religious events nationwide to pay tribute to the King’s significant impact on Thai society and culture.
Culture Minister Sermsak Pongpanich has outlined the planned activities, which include Buddhist chanting, public service initiatives, and showcasing King Bhumibol’s musical talents, especially in jazz. The Fine Arts Department will conduct a seminar on the sustainable economy inspired by the King’s principles and a musical tribute featuring his compositions.
A jazz concert at the Thailand Cultural Center, organized by the Department of Cultural Promotion, will showcase performances from prominent Thai orchestras and choirs, celebrating the King’s artistic legacy. The Department of Religious Affairs is also organizing community service activities at Wat Phra Ram 9 Kanjanapisek, in line with the King’s emphasis on spirituality and community engagement.
Marigolds, representing the King and his birth on a Monday, are set to be used extensively in floral decorations. These flowers, believed to bring good fortune and harmony, are a poignant symbol of the King’s values of simplicity and sufficiency.
Sermsak is scheduled to participate in various ceremonies, including an alms-giving event at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground and a wreath-laying at the King Bhumibol Adulyadej Memorial Park. The Ministry encourages Thai citizens to partake in acts of kindness, celebrating the King’s legacy of altruism and dedication to the Thai people.
