Thailand Moves Closer to Allowing Casinos as MPs Back Proposal

Thailand moved a step closer to allowing casinos, with parliament backing the proposal as the Southeast Asian country anticipates billions of dollars in taxes from facilities that can rival those in Macau and Cambodia.

The House of Representatives agreed late on Thursday to forward a blueprint for setting up large entertainment complexes that include casinos to the Cabinet for its consideration, according to Deputy Speaker Suchart Tancharoen. While the report was prepared by a panel of lawmakers drawn from across political parties, it isn’t binding on the government, according to officials.
