Thailand approves new high flow oxygen system | Medical Oxygen

Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) has approved the use of a High Flow Oxygen Therapy (HFOT) system developed by US-based respiratory care company Telesair.

To be distributed on the Thai market by Thailand-based JPP Care, the company’s Bonhawa HFOT system is designed to provide up to 80L/m (litres per minute) of medical-grade oxygen to treat patients suffering from respiratory insufficiency.

According to Telesair, the device features an easy-to-use touchscreen which allows greater therapeutic range and provides hospital workers with the ability to visualise patient settings and data from outside the room.

Stating the importance of Thailand as a market for Telesair products, Bryan Lieu, CEO, added, “High flow oxygen therapy has become widely accepted at Thai medical centres of excellence and there are many clinicians there that we are eager to work with.”

By partnering with JPP, Telesair aims to help reach the maximum number of patients while also learning about the potential impact of the technology’s extended flow range.

“This latest success was truly a team effort and with our Bonhawa HFOT system now available in Thailand, we’re just getting started,” added Lieu.

The company is currently seeking similar approvals in several other countries, in addition to moving forward with the development of its second-generation home oxygen therapy device.

A study published by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health in 2021 called for the government to address the shortage of related equipment, such as oxygen cylinders, generators, and concentrators in the country.

It also revealed that there is an ‘urgent need’ for research and development to increase the capacity of oxygen production and ensure equitable oxygen distribution.
