Thailand and Google agree to strategic cooperation for development of digital technology

The Thai government and US-based Google have announced a policy of strategic cooperation, to lay the foundations for digital infrastructure, research and development of artificial intelligence, cloud-first policies and the setup of a Google cloud region in Bangkok.

Ruth Porat, chief financial officer of Alphabet, and its subsidiary Google, said that this cooperation is aimed at increasing the digital competitiveness of Thailand and ushering in a cloud-based digital transformation, under the concept of “Leave no Thai behind”.

The first foundation is the establishment of a cloud region in Bangkok, to drive digital services which are more reliable and faster. This will help to generate about US$4.1 billion for the Thai economy and create about 50,000 new jobs by the end of 2030.
