Heavy rainfall and large waves are forecast across much of southern Thailand through at least Jan. 27. As of early Jan. 24, the Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall in parts of the lower South region. Waves of around 2 meters (6.5 feet) are likely in the upper Gulf of Thailand from Surat Thani Province northwards, while waves of 2-3 meters (6.5-10 feet) are forecast in the lower Gulf of Thailand from Nakhon Si Thammarat Province southwards. In the Andaman Sea, waves of 1-2 meters (3-6.5 feet) are likely. Authorities have advised vessels in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorms. Small vessels in the lower Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving the shore through Jan. 27.
