Thai Tourist Stumbles and Gets Her Leg Impaled by Wire Mesh in Pattaya

Pattaya —

An unfortunate Thai woman was walking on a Pattaya walkway when she stumbled and got her leg impaled by a sharp, iron wire mesh.

Sawang Boriboon rescuers were alerted to an accident on a walkway on Thepprasit Road in Pattaya at 9 PM Tuesday night, March 28th, and rushed to the scene. They found a Thai woman, Ms. Sirima Khummode, 42, sitting on the footpath and crying in pain.

Sirima informed the rescuers that there was an iron wire lodged in her right leg and that she was bleeding. The rescuers then promptly took action and carefully removed the wire from her leg before transporting her to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The injured woman later told The Pattaya News that she came from Rayong province to visit Pattaya. As she parked her vehicle and walked to buy food on the side of the street, she accidentally stepped on some protruding iron wire mesh on the footpath that she did not see. The wire penetrated her ankle, causing her to scream for help from passersby to call for assistance.

The mesh is about 2 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. There are no warning signs on the walkway. Some Pattaya locals stated that the walkway has been under improvement since October 2020 and was supposed to be completed last September according to the construction contract.

No responses from Pattaya officials are available as of press time although the city has recently stated that they are aware of the delayed construction and trying to get it completed as soon as possible.
