At 12:30 PM, on March 1st, 2024, the Thai Metropolitan Police held a press conference on the seizure of one million pills of illicit substances at a police checkpoint on Rama 2 Road, Chom Thong, Bangkok.
According to the police, at 2:00 AM, on February 29th, the police set up a police alcohol checkpoint on Rama 2 Road. A red sedan driver was asked to step out of the vehicle for inspection.
However, the suspect, publicly identified only as Mr. Preecha, 33, fled on foot before being captured 500 meters away from the police checkpoint, said the police.
Upon the police inspection of the suspect’s sedan, it was discovered that a massive lot of more than one million pills of illicit substances were stashed behind the back seats and the trunk.
Preecha, the suspect, reportedly admitted that he was hired for 6,000 baht per trip to transport illicit substances from Ayutthaya to south Thailand. Moreover, Preecha held a criminal record on drug-related offenses in 2011, according to the police.
Initially, the police were investigating to track down any other involved individuals to hold them accountable for their crimes.
