Thai owner of ‘Miss Universe’ seeks bankruptcy protection

TOKYO — JKN Global Group, the Thai media company that owns the Miss Universe pageant, has filed for bankruptcy protection after loading up on debt to buy the annual event.

JKN said Thursday that its petition for business rehabilitation had been filed with Thailand’s Central Bankruptcy Court following a board decision Tuesday. The company will seek to restructure its debt and improve liquidity.
