Thai language school recommendations?

I have been looking into retiring to Thailand or at least spending most of the year there. But I want to test the waters first. I am not terribly sure I want to go through the official retirement route and I would rather just get a visa from a language school, as it would be interesting for me to learn Thai anyway (not just Thai, would be open to Tibetan, but I reckon Thai will be more useful!).

Can anyone recommend any language schools in Chiang Mai (or other parts of north Thailand)? As I say, I would want one where I could do the minimum of classes for a visa (although I would be more than happy to make up the studying on my own – I once taught myself Farsi).

An indication of the costs would be good also. Ideally, I would want to avoid the rainy season, but I come from a rainy country anyway. I dislike Bangkok, but like everywhere else in Thailand – and the region in general (esp. Vietnam).
