The Administrative Court decided to accept a petition to investigate two former Pattaya mayor candidates for allegedly exceeding the campaign banner limit.
The court on May 31st, 2023, accepted a petition to investigate two unnamed former mayor candidates over the overuse of banners, in contrast to the Pattaya Provincial Election Commission’s (EC) initial ruling to dismiss the petition.
According to local media reports, the two accused allegedly exceeded the campaign banner limit during Pattaya’s mayoral election on May 22nd, 2022, which was set at 750 banners for each candidates. The accused reportedly put up as many as 1,757 and 1,162 banners each, however.
Even so, the Pattaya EC eventually resolved to dismiss the complaint filed by other candidates, but the Administrative Court decided to accept the case on May 31st and would urgently investigate it.
If found guilty, the two accused will be imprisoned for no more than six months or receive a fine of no more than 10,000 baht, or both.
It could even spark a new mayor election, but is unlikely, notes TPN media.
