Thai startup carrier, Really Cool Airlines, has set its sights on commencing commercial operations in December 2023, according to a report by The Star. However, in a previous statement, the airline had mentioned that it would begin operations in the first quarter of 2024.

The airline has already taken some steps to get closer to the goal. Really Cool Airlines has recently obtained an air operating license (AOL). However, before they can begin commercial service, they need to secure an air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

A ‘lifestyle carrier’

The company’s business model is a blend of contradictions. Sporting the slogan ‘We Fly the Future,’ the airline positions itself between a luxury and budget airline while also defining itself as a full-service’ lifestyle carrier.’ According to the airline, the prices for flights will be similar to those of a low-cost carrier, and the safety standards, customer service, and product standards of Really Cool Airlines will be closer to that of a luxury carrier.

Although the routes are yet to be revealed, Really Cool Airlines is expected to fly regional and several international routes from Bangkok to hot spots within Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Acknowledging the necessity to boost the number of airlines and flights operating in the country, Thailand emphasized the significant role that Really Cool Airlines will assume upon its commencement of operations. Underlining this point, Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated:

“Really Cool Airlines’ commitment to providing a unique flying experience will not only enhance the travel experience for passengers but also contribute to the growth of Thailand’s resurgent travel and hospitality industries. We are excited to see what the future holds for the airline, and look forward to their inaugural flight.”

The fleet

For long-haul flights, Really Cool Airlines will start operations with three leased Airbus A330 widebody aircraft. Leading the newcomer is Patee Sarasin, the previous head of Thai low-cost carrier Nok Air, and he promises that Really Cool Airlines will surpass previous standards. After announcing the launch of Really Cool Airlines, Sarasin said:

“We are thrilled to introduce Really Cool Airlines and look forward to providing passengers with an exceptional flying experience. Our team of experts has worked tirelessly to create a new standard for the aviation industry, and we’re excited to unveil in the coming months what we have in store.”

Thailand’s aviation sector currently comprises several major name names, including Thai Airways, Thai Smile, Nok Air, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Vietjet Air.
