A riverside gallery in the Charoen Krung area will show striking works by a Swiss artist who uses a hammer to pound, lacerate, and crack glass panels.
Starting Friday and continuing for one month , Shattered will feature 30 unique works and live performance by Swiss visual artist Simon Berger for his debut exhibition in Asia.
In a form of striking vandalism, Berger’s work inverts the pop policing theory of “broken windows” to show disorder can also create hope. To the 46-year-old carpenter-turned-glass artist, glass is a medium for light, and the hammer is not used for destruction but to amplify the effect.
“Disorder does not only lead to crime, disorder can also be the kingdom of light,” Berger says. “It’s about hope, not destruction. Light emerges from the hammer blows.”
