Srettha says new Cabinet likely to be submitted for royal endorsement Friday

However, Srettha said he was seeking an opinion from the Council of State, the government’s legal advisers, on ethics related to Pichit’s appointment. He expects the opinion to be issued by Friday.

“If the Council of State says it’s okay, I hope the issue will be over,” Srettha said.

Pichit was jailed for six months for contempt of court in 2008 over a paper bag he was carrying to give to Supreme Court officials at the start of the Ratchadapisek land trial against Thaksin.

Pheu Thai’s legal experts say that Pichit was jailed by court order, not after being found guilty, so is not constitutionally disqualified from holding a Cabinet post.
