Southport man killed in early morning motorbike crash in Thailand

A Merseyside man was tragically killed when he lost control of his motorbike in Thailand, an inquest heard today.

Ian Edwards was riding alone on Mahidol Road, Nong Hoi, in the Chiang Mai Province in the early hours of June 21, this year.

Albert Howard-Murphy told Bootle Coroner’s Court how the 31-year-old was seen on footage travelling at speed shortly before the crash.

There was no third party involvement, the inquest heard, and Mr Edwards, from Southport, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Markings were found on the road barriers where the bike is believed to have struck it before coming to a stop, Mr Howard-Murphy added.

An autopsy was performed in Thailand and his body was repatriated back to the UK.

Mr Howard-Murphy said Mr Edwards’ parents were contacted by Ian’s girlfriend, telling them he had been involved in the accident in the early hours of Sunday, June 21.
