Bangkok Post – An artist’s ode to our pollution crisis

Bangkok’s buried stories will be unearthed during “Invisible Town”, which will take place at SAC Gallery, from Saturday to March 23.

This is a solo exhibition by Bangkok artist Thidarat “Mariem” Chantachua who invites viewers to step beyond the postcard-perfect facade and delve into the city’s unseen depths through her delicate strokes of needle and brush.

On display will be embroidery on tie-dye fabric, embroidery on paintings, painting on roof panels, mixed media works of medium to large sizes — all made from common objects such as smashed cans, mosquito wire screens, used cardboard, milk cartons, and wrought iron.

Her work whispers the story of haze-wreathed landscapes, a silent testament to Thailand’s air pollution crisis while also addressing many problems in Bangkok, mostly caused by a lack of city planning.
