Southern people have a hey! EGAT pushes a high-voltage transmission system of 500 kilovolts with a potential to receive 2 times more power.

EGAT began supplying electricity through the first 500 kV power transmission line in the southern region. Increase the power transmission potential from the central region to the south by more than 2 times, creating the stability of the power system in the southern region Ready to support the economic recovery after the Covid-19 subsides

Mr. Kitti Petchsantad, Deputy Governor of Transmission Systems Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) It was revealed that EGAT has completed the transmission system improvement project in the western and southern regions to strengthen the power system stability Phase 1, starting to distribute electricity through high-voltage transmission lines with a voltage of 500 kV from Bang Saphan 2 High Voltage Power Station, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province Passing through Surat Thani 2 Power Station, Surat Thani Province and ends at Phuket High Voltage Power Station 3, a total distance of 504 kilometers, which increases the power transmission capacity from the central region to the south by more than 2 times, from 700 megawatts (MW) to 1600 MW, which is considered a linking route. The first power transmission system at the highest voltage of 500 kV in the southern region

This project to improve the transmission system was created to solve the problem of the power system in the southern region that has insufficient power generation power to meet the people’s demand for electricity. Therefore, it is necessary to send electricity from the central region to enhance the stability of the power system. EGAT therefore proposed to approve the project to improve the transmission system in the western and southern regions to enhance the stability of the power system. The first phase of transmission system construction began at the end of 2016 and was able to deliver electricity at the end of April. Help support the expected increase in electricity demand after the Covid-19 situation subsides in the southern region and tourist provinces. Especially Phuket Province, which has the highest demand for electricity in the south and is an important tourism industry economic zone of the country. By helping to increase the power supply capacity of Phuket up to 1,170 MW and also reduce the risk of power outages in a wide area in the southern region. in the case of the transmission line linking the central region to the southern region, there is a disruption as well
