Thai, Malaysian and Hong Kong drug suspects were arrested yesterday, April 13th, in the Bangkok area. Police seized from the suspects 93 kg of heroin and 161.2 kg of crystal meth destined for Australia.
Thai Police received information that there would be an attempt to smuggle heroin from Thailand to Australia, so they coordinated with several agencies to seize heroin with a total weight of 29.6 kilograms, hidden in plastic sheets at a warehouse in the Bueng Kum area of Bangkok.
The illicit drugs were about to be exported to Australia by sea, according to police.
The authorities then expanded their investigation and arrested a Thai suspect, Ms. Kanda Kanthong, a 34-year-old woman from Phatthalung province, who reportedly arranged the delivery of the heroin.
She was apprehended at a parking lot in front of a shopping mall in the Rama 3 area of Bangkok. During interrogation, Ms. Kanda reportedly confessed that she had been hired by a man identified only as Mr. Hia for this job.
Shortly after Ms. Kanda’s arrest, Thai Police arrested another suspect, Mr. Leung Ka Wing or “Hia,” a 63-year-old Malaysian who the police said was the boss of the operation. He was arrested in Bangkok. Police seized from him 3.3 kg of crystal meth hidden in a picture frame in his sedan.
One more person involved was also arrested, identified as Mr. Jayalu, a 36-year-old Thai man who was responsible for handling the money.
Thai Police then arrested the last suspect, Mr. Kai Cheong Chan, a 62-year-old man from Hong Kong, and seized 29.9 kg of crystal meth and picture frames with a similar design to those previously seized from Hai.
Mr. Kai confessed to police and disclosed the location of the last hoard of drugs, leading to another seizure of heroin weighing about 63.4 kg and 128 kg of crystal meth.
The suspects are detained at a police station and awaiting legal action.
