Ryder Cup brings out real personalities of players

I’m listening to the same old Ryder Cup cliches from players being interviewed who are adamant that their team bonding is wonderful, everybody is joking around, their captain is great and their swings are perfect.

However, all this seems to change and facial expressions turn from a smile to a frown when your useless partner misses a three-foot putt to lose your foursomes or fourball match 6 and 5.

As we sit glued to our TV and are transported to Wisconsin, every non-American golfer will be hoping Europe retain the Ryder Cup and that some great golf is witnessed in the competition.

After years of the match being a foregone conclusion, this feeling changed when the son of my old boss holed the famous four-footer on the 18th at Royal Birkdale in the 1969 contest.
