Ratchanok, mixed duo carry Thai hopes in KL

Ratchanok Intanon and mixed doubles pair Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran advanced to the quarter-finals of the US$360,000 Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Ratchanok is the sole survivor in the singles event after Pornpawee Chochuwong, Phittayaporn Chaiwan and Kantaphon Wangcharoen all bowed out yesterday.

Mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai also made a shock exit at the World Tour Super 500 event.

Eighth seed Ratchanok, who claimed her first title in two years on Sunday at the Malaysia Open, eased past Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia 21-6, 21-15 to progress to the last eight.

The Thai ace will face third seed An Se-Young today after the Korean defeated Julie Dawall Jakobsen of Denmark 21-11, 21-13.

Supak and Supissara defeated Chen Tang Jie and Valeree Siow of Malaysia 21-10, 21-12 to reach the quarter-finals…
