Public Health Minister to kick off “cannabis tour” to educate public about uses, laws

To educate the public about Thailand’s laws on cannabis and the medical uses of the once criminalised plant, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is going on tour with his first stop in the northeastern province Surin. The academic conference will be held from tomorrow until Sunday at the Rajamangala University of Technology Isaan’s Surin Campus. Thai media says there will be 12 more conferences in various other provinces this year.

Anutin has been a vocal advocate for medical marijuana and cultivating the plant for research and health purposes. A government spokesperson adds that cannabis is expected to become a new cash crop, adding that farmers with permission can grow the plant for additional income.
