PM asks Microsoft to invest in regional data centre in Thailand

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin invited Microsoft to invest in developing Thailand as a regional data centre during an informal discussion with Microsoft executives in New York on Thursday evening.

An informed source, close to the prime minister’s delegation, said that Microsoft executives claimed that Thailand has the potential of becoming a data centre in Southeast Asia and that the giant tech company will support the private and public sectors in the use of cloud technology.

According to the Microsoft executives, cloud technology will enhance the capabilities of technology professionals in Thailand, such as engineers and IT professionals, as well as the country’s competitiveness.

The source said that a regional data centre project will require an investment of about 500 billion baht and about 500 megawatts of electricity to keep it operational.
