Bangkok’s Bhumibol bridges to partially close overnight until October

Traffic across the Chao Phraya River isthmus south of downtown will be complicated until October due to work rubberizing its two bridges.

Motorists are advised to avoid using the two Bhumibol bridges linking both sides of the Industrial Ring Road after 10pm, as some lanes will be closed every night for six months of roadwork– until the end of September.

Starting tonight, parts of the Bhumibol 1 and Bhumibol 2 bridges will close to make way for construction crews resurfacing the road with a rubberized asphalt. 

The ruling government has been gung-ho about adding rubber to everything for the sake of its southern power base — including a billion-baht rubberized bike path in central Thailand five years ago.

The work will take place overnight 10pm to 5am every day until Sept. 30 at the earliest, according to the Department of Rural Roads.
