Pattaya May Delay Reopening to Tourism

 Pattaya Business and Tourism Association (PBTA) says that Pattaya City seems unlikely to reopen to tourism on 1 September, as originally planned.

PBTA president Bun-anan Phatthanasin admitted on 21 August that the reopening is likely to be postponed because a related plan, to get at least 70% of the people in Pattaya vaccinated against COVID-19 before reopening, appears unlikely to be accomplished.

He said a special committee will have to reconsider the reopening plan, submitted by the PBTA, before it can be sent to the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) sub-committee for approval.

Meanwhile, Pattaya City Mayor Sontaya Khunpluem said the city has ramped up active case finding, to get care and treatment to people infected with the virus, adding that a total of 5,196 people have been tested for COVID-19, with 192 of them…
