NT Leads Thailand’s Submarine Cable Industry at Telecoms World Asia 2023

National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) reinforces its position as Thailand’s foremost submarine cable provider, promoting the nation’s connectivity on a global scale at Telecoms World Asia 2023.

National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) made a prominent appearance at Telecoms World Asia 2023, emphasising its determination to claim the top spot as Thailand’s premier submarine cable provider. NT showcased the strength and potential of its communication network, both nationally and globally, thereby strengthening Thailand’s standing in the telecommunications arena. During the event, Ms. Kalaya Chinatiworn, Principal Advisor for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, addressed the audience at the Convention Center Room, located on the 22nd floor of the Centara Grand at CentralWorld Hotel in Bangkok.

“The government acknowledges the pivotal role of digital technology in the country’s economic and social development. Consequently, extensive efforts have been undertaken to enhance digital infrastructure, fostering connectivity on domestic and international fronts. The expansion of the submarine cable network is set to elevate our ability to connect with neighbouring countries in the region. The Digital Thailand project is driving comprehensive digital development, exemplified by initiatives such as the Net Pracharath project, which brings high-speed Internet via fibre optic cable to 75,000 villages nationwide. Additionally, the Public Internet to Community project extends high-speed Internet access to more than 8,246 communities. We also have ambitious plans for investment projects that promote the use of 5G technology under the supervision of the National 5G Committee, encompassing pilot projects in agriculture, public health, manufacturing, transportation, smart city development, tourism, and education,” explained Ms. Kalaya.

“Furthermore, as we propel Thailand towards becoming an ASEAN Digital Hub, we are accelerating the development of telecommunications infrastructure across various sectors to create opportunities and attract global investment. This includes expanding the capacity of the submarine cable network and the construction of a new submarine cable called ASIA Direct Cable (ADC). ADC will provide Thailand with the capacity to meet the increasing demand driven by economic growth, enhancing the country’s international network stability.”

Mr. Anupab Lujananon, Vice President of Transmission Department 1 at NT, addressed the audience on the topic of “Efficient Connectivity and Submarine Cable Systems,” stating, “NT possesses the robust infrastructure and stable domestic and international network connections required to support a wide range of customer needs. With a large capacity bandwidth ranging from 100G to 800G, our network can transmit signals in one fibre pair up to 96T. Real-time intelligent monitoring further enhances our capabilities, enabling seamless connectivity between Thailand and countries worldwide through various submarine cable systems, solidifying our position as Thailand’s premier submarine cable provider.”

NT currently boasts nine submarine cable systems, including SMW3, FLAG, TIS, SMW4, AAG, SJC, APG, AAE1, and most recently ADC (ASIA Direct Cable). ADC represents an investment in a state-of-the-art submarine cable system with a capacity of 400G per wavelength. Its landing station in Thailand is strategically located at Sriracha Station, Chon Buri Province, a mere 100 kilometres from Bangkok, ensuring seamless connections between Thailand and neighbouring countries in the CLMV area, including key destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan. The project is more than 95% complete and is expected to be fully operational by mid-2024. The network within Thailand and its neighbouring countries is bolstered by more than 10 points, encompassing four points in Myanmar, three points in Laos, two points in Cambodia, and two points in Malaysia. NT remains committed to upgrading the international Internet network as part of its mission to become an ASEAN Digital Hub and to support the Digital Park project in alignment with Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) policy, setting the stage for significant digital development in the country’s economy and society.

Additionally, Mrs. Ubonpan Chuenchom, Vice President of the Carrier Business Department at NT, participated in a discussion on the topic of “Diversity, Resilience, and High Availability – Building a More Robust Network Infrastructure.” She provided updates on developments aimed at strengthening the telecommunications infrastructure.

Within the exhibition zone, NT showcased its readiness to connect telecommunications networks from Thailand to regions worldwide through its nine submarine cable routes and a range of digital service solutions. This presentation garnered significant interest from telecommunication operators, including telcos, content providers, and OTTs.

Telecoms World Asia 2023 took place from November 15 to 16, 2023, at the Convention Center Room on the 22nd floor of the Centara Grand at CentralWorld Bangkok Hotel. It stands as one of the most pivotal international telecommunications conferences in the Asia Pacific region, with this year’s theme being “Digital Transformation for Asian Telcos.” Over 1,000 leaders in the telecommunications field and digital solution providers participated in this influential conference.
