Need Help With Visa Situation

Hi there, I am a Chinese-Canadian freelancer (Chinese ancestry, Canadian passport) who has been in Thailand since August 2022. I am currently here with my wife who is a Chinese national teaching Chinese at an MoE school. I entered Thailand last year on a Tourist Visa and really ended up liking it, and subsequently got an ED Visa via a language school.

Once I began considering staying here long-term, I began looking into the 5-year Elite Visa, and at the end of February this year, I went through the application process using an agent (also Chinese) that my wife knows. I was informed yesterday by the agent that I got rejected, and after visiting the Thailand Elite main office today (we live about 10 minutes away by foot), they told me immigration’s on heightened awareness for cases like mine due to instances of Chinese people coming here in recent times and doing business / working illegally.

They told me to wait out my ED Visa (which I got in October 2022), leave, come back on another Tourist Visa and reapply next year.

I am uncertain as to what to do now, so I would really welcome your help.
