SAMUT PRAKAN: A Myanmar man detained pending deportation was found hanged in a cell at Samrong Tai police station in Phra Pradaeng district on Sunday morning.
Pol Col Chakrapong Nuchphadung, the Samrong Tai police chief, identified the man as Samking Ratana, 35, who was arrested in mid-November 2021 for illegal entry and having some methamphetamine pills and crystal methamphetamine in possession.
Samkiang had completed his jail sentence after being found guilty of the offences, but was detained at the police station awaiting deportation, he said.
At about 2.30am on Sunday morning, Pol Col Chakrapong was called by a police officer who reported that a routine inspection of Samkiang’s cell had revealed he had committed suicide. His body was found hanging from his cell bars by a drawstring from his trousers.
