MP calls for court charter drafting role

Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) list-MP Paiboon Nititawan has proposed that MPs and senators be allowed to ask the Constitutional Court to rule on the legitimacy of the charter drafting process.

Mr Paiboon, also vice chairman of the House committee vetting charter amendment bills, said he has asked the panel to include his proposal in the charter amendment drafts before they are up for the second reading in parliament next month.

Under his proposal, MPs and senators can lodge a petition with the Constitutional Court asking it to rule on the legitimacy of the charter drafting process if they discover irregularities such as proxy voting.

Mr Paiboon said the 2017 constitution and the charter amendment bills being examined by the committee do not cover an issue like this.
