Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are an integral part of the Philippine economy. In 2022, they contributed 8.9 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP)—making them the second largest source of foreign capital after value-added exports. The remittances sent home by OFWs play a vital role in bolstering the country’s economy, funding education, and health care and improving the overall quality of life for their loved ones back in the Philippines.
