Klong Toey market closes after vendor tests positive

Klong Toey Market, a major wet market in central Bangkok, will be closed for three days, starting from today after a vendor tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, a three-month-old baby has also tested positive for the virus, the youngest case so far, among 32 new cases recorded in the capital yesterday.

The vendor at Klong Toey market, who is asymptomatic, has been put in quarantine after a saliva test showed that she had been infected with the coronavirus, according to Klong Toey district director Piyada Niyom.

More than 10 people who had been in close contact with the infected vendor have been isolated, Ms Piyada said.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Jan 10 tested over 3,000 vendors and migrant workers in the Klong Toey Market area.

The market will be closed for cleaning today and will reopen again on Saturday, she said.
