Prayut: Scoffs at ‘analysis’

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday denied having sent a signal that he was endorsing former governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang by visiting Klong Ong Ang on Thursday.

Gen Prayut’s visit to Klong Ong Ang, which became a popular leisure spot under Pol Gen Aswin’s City Hall helm, coincided with the first day of registration for Bangkok’s gubernatorial race.

Pol Gen Aswin, appointed by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) as city governor in October 2016, was among 20 candidates who applied to contest the election.

Several saw the prime minister’s visit as a sign he was rooting for the former governor, but the prime minister denied any connection.
