Is it true that long-term apartment rental prices actually go up during the tourism High Season and then down during Low Season?

Hi guys, I’m looking to move to Phuket and I have flexibility regarding when I can move there.

I previously read online (can’t remember where, but it stuck with me) that long-term apartment rental prices for apartments that are on the market actually go up during the tourism High Season and then down during Low Season.

Is this true?

I can obviously understand this happening with short-term rentals like Airbnb’s, but not so much for long-term rentals. To be clear, I’m not talking about the rental price one pays during the rental period in their contract as that’s obviously fixed for the term of the contract, I’m talking about the prices that are currently on the market for rent at that point in time (assuming all else being equal).

If this does indeed happen, then I obviously don’t want to move there in the middle of High Season and have to rent at high prices and then be stuck in a renewal cycle that’s always in High Season any time I renew or move to a different apartment.

I would appreciate the opinion and experience of those who have been in Phuket for years. Thanks.
