Is it just me or were young Western tourists and expatriates in Bangkok back in the 1970s and 1980s much thinner and smaller than today?

Hello,
I am young Thai and I have never travel abroad. However, my Thai grandfather was an interpreter and he worked with several Western tourists and expatriates in Bangkok during 1970s and 1980s.

Then, I was looking at his old workplacs photo albums from the 70s and 80s and was shocked at how skinny and small nearly every Western people he worked with looks….and especially young Western adults are almost as thin as young Thai today…
