I feel like I missed out on Bangkok

I visited last year and did not appreciate much of what Bangkok offered, preferred Chaing Mai for relaxing and islands for some good times.
But after looking through this sub reddit and r/thailand , I am willing to question my opinion of thailand which was a heavily polluted, traffic jammed city.

If you were a solo traveller in Bangkok, how would you go about living there given no time constraints ? (I work remotely)

My main interests would be meeting and talking to locals (not farang tourists) and basically living and having a social life (and a gf) there
