How widespread was Muay Boran during the Ayutthaya era?

Let’s say that between the reign of King Naresuan to King Narai, how widespread was Muay Boran and was it common for regular civilians to practice it for both self defense and military applications?

I did some light reading on Reddit and apparently, some of the “outdated” techniques that Muay Boran teaches was apparently in response to Hongsa/Burmese soldiers, e.g. high jumps/knees were meant for Ayutthaya infantry soldiers to be able to fight back against a Hongsa mounted cavalry soldier by attempting to knock him off his horse.
