Harpoon missiles salvaged from sunken Sukhothai corvette

Thai and US divers have recovered two Harpoon anti-ship missiles from the sunken HTMS Sukhothai corvette, but have not found the remains of five missing crew.

The two missiles were put on board the US supply ship, Ocean Valor, to be decommissioned. Earlier, a name plate from HTMS Sukhothai and some other weapons were recovered.

The joint operation continues for the seventh day today, to remove the wreck’s torpedo tubes.

HTMS Sukhothai sank about 20 miles from the shore of Prachuap Khiri Khan during a storm on the night of December 18th, 2022. Twenty four of the crew were killed and five are still unaccounted for after extensive searches. The rest were rescued.

After more than a year since the tragic incident, the Royal Thai Navy is still unable to disclose the cause of the accident or who should be held accountable for the loss of lives and property.
