Going to Phuket for surfing – still worth it to go?

Hey there. I’m meant to head out to Phuket tomorrow for 5 days to go surf (I got too excited with the idea of being able to surf there cheaply) but with the recent oil incidents and now it’s rainy season, is it still worth going? I also learnt about the recent Norovirus issues – is that still a thing?

I’m coming from Malaysia so the tickets weren’t that expensive but I just want to know if it’s still worth my while or maybe pivoting to Bangkok to chill there.
