Former Thai Ambassador to Denmark Found Deceased in Bangkok Home

Bangkok—

Thai police are investigating the death of a former Thai ambassador to Denmark, whose body was found in a bathroom in a house in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district early Sunday morning, October 8th. A 17-year-old person of interest has been brought in for questioning.

The deceased was living alone in a luxurious house on Soi Vibhavadi Rangsit 20 in the Chomphon sub-district, said Pol Capt Puthipong Hongthong, the deputy chief investigator at the Suthisan Police Station. His name was withheld pending a notification of his family.

In the morning today a team of repairmen arrived at the ex-ambassador’s three-story house to perform repairs. They promptly alerted the police when the homeowner did not respond to the buzzer at the front gate despite multiple attempts and found that a foul smell was emanating from the premises.

Upon arrival, police discovered that the house was locked from the inside. They then discovered that a bedroom’s lights were on. Additionally, neighbors living nearby had notified the police that they could sense a strong odor from the premises for the past 2-3 days.

Law enforcement officers conducted an inspection of the entire house and found the former ambassador deceased on the second floor inside a bathroom.

Police said the body was covered on top with about 3-4 layers of brown cardboard boxes. They said the deceased had likely passed away a week ago. He was a former Thai diplomat in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The officers further disclosed that the house was apparently ransacked. Inquiries from neighbors also revealed that the house in question had recently undergone renovations and was completed about a month ago.

The cause of death is not yet known. Police are interrogating a person of interest who they said is the son of the painter who was responsible for the house renovation. The person is only 17 years old; therefore, his name has been withheld from the press by police.

This is a developing story and more details may be updated as they become available.
