First time visitor – any must things to pack?

I’ll be traveling to Thailand in July and as a first time visitor to the country (and Asia in general) I’m wondering if there are any things I need to make sure I don’t forget to pack that seasoned visitors would recommend.

I know the basics – clothes, sunscreen, voltage converter for device chargers and laptop, etc, but anything else I should make sure I bring?

Also, do I need to worry about bringing button down shirts and slacks for when visiting any temples? Would shorts and polos be considered too casual for those?

I’ll be landing in Bangkok and be in Thailand for a week before moving on to another country.
