Faded car plates to get free repaint

Vehicle licence plates with faded characters can be sent in for repainting, free of charge until the end of this year, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) has announced.

The conditions required for a free repaint are that the plate letters must be “3กก to 4กฆ” — issued in Bangkok and other provinces between Aug 1 and Dec 31 in 2014, DLT director-general Chirute Visalachitra said yesterday.

The colour of the paint on the plates issued during this time was found to have faded faster than expected, potentially the result of a mistake during the colour mixture process.

Vehicle owners who are eligible to have their licence plates repainted can contact the DLT directly.

When dropping off the plates, vehicle owners must also bring their car registration manuals or a copy, together with their ID card; corporate car owners must bring the company car…
