Doi Inthanon via taxi from Chom Thong?

My partner and I want to look around Doi Inthanon for more than just a day tour. We were thinking to stay a few days in Chom Thong and hire a taxi each day to take us around. Does this seem possible/ reasonable or is it better to just do a day tour? Are there taxis available in Chom Thong?

There weren’t many multiple day tours and they included many hours of trekking whereas I was looking for a more relaxed pace!
