Do you think Bangkok malls will suffer the same fate as western malls? Or is there some magical force that keeps malls busy in asia?

Nearly everything I see in the malls aside from clothes or food, I see much cheaper on lazada / shoppee. This was the final stage of malls and large retail stores (Sears) in the USA.

So here is my unanswerable question. What keeps malls in asia alive? I thought for sure a lot would shut down during covid. At least MBK seemed about ready to die.

This also begs the question if they are even profitable or they’re just endless money sinks.
