Daughter who stole 250 million baht ordered to pay compensation

The daughter who stole over 250 million baht from her sick mother has been ordered to pay more than 200 million baht (US$6 million) in compensation the bedridden woman.

In the suit filed by Huay Sriwirat against her daughter Mawadee Sriwirat, The Phra Khanong Civil Court has ordered Mawadee, two Kasikornbank employees and a Kasikornbank bank to pay over 200 million baht. Mawadee has already been sentenced to 20 years in prison for falsifying documents.

Huay said that the embezzlement began in 2014, while she was in hospital undergoing treatment. She accused her daughter and four bank employees of changing the rules applicable to her account so that a fingerprint could be used to withdraw money instead of a signature. They then used a fake power of attorney document to confirm the withdrawal of about 250 million baht from two of Huay’s accounts.
