Covid-infected mum’s baby is virus-free

A 28-year-old Covid-19 infected woman gave birth to a baby girl at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok and her baby was virus-free, according to Department of Medical Services director-general Somsak Akkasilp.

The woman, in her 38th week of pregnancy, was transferred from Samut Sakhon Hospital in Samut Sakhon, which is a hotspot of the fresh Covid-19 outbreak, on Dec 27. She tested positive for the virus, but showed no symptoms.

A team of gynecologists, paediatricians, anaesthetists and nurses from Rajavithi Hospital and Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health assembled to prepare for the delivery under “new normal” medical services.

An operation was performed and the mother and the baby were reported to be healthy. The girl, who weighed 3.87 kilogrammes at birth, was isolated and tested negative for the virus.
