Cops seize B10m pork stash

Police and the Department of Livestock Development raided a refrigerated warehouse in Samut Sakhon and seized 945 boxes of illegally imported pork weighing 21,473 kilogrammes, worth about 10 million baht.

Department of Special Investigation deputy director-general Pol Maj Yutthana Praedam said the police were acting on a tip-off.

After the raid authorities found out the owner of the warehouse had declared that another type of frozen product was being stored on site.

“We found that warehouse No 1 contained the smuggled pork meat,” he said.

Authorites confiscated the pork and charged the warehouse owner with violating the Animal Epidemics Act.

False declaration of a product carries a maximum jail term of one year and fine of 20,000 baht, while hoarding pork can lead to a seven-year sentence and fine of up to 140,000 baht.
