Church announces dedication of Bangkok Thailand Temple

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the dedication of its newest temple Sunday.

The Bangkok Thailand Temple was dedicated by Elder Ronald A. Rasband, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, in two sessions. The church now has 185 operating temples. However, the Bangkok Thailand Temple is the first on the southeast Asia peninsula, according to a church news release.

The temple is a six-story structure, covering more than 48,500 square feet.

During Sunday’s ceremony, Elder Rasband recognized three former church presidents. In 2000, President Gordon B. Hinckley foretold of a temple in Bangkok. The temple was officially announced by President Thomas S. Monson in 2015. Current President Russell M. Nelson toured the site five years ago, and assigned Elder Rasband to do the dedication.

According to the news release, the temple district covers from Cambodia to Pakistan and from Nepal to Indonesia.

Church missionaries first arrived in Thailand in 1968, and five years later a mission was created.

There are more than 23,000 church members in Thailand in 40 congregations.
